The Cover
- The magazine is called Q, as the company own much more than just the magazine, there is also TV channels, radio stations and a music website.
- The logo of the magazine is very eye catching, as it is bright and bold. It is a white Q printed on a block of red. With the main background of the magazine being white, it makes the logo stand out. It is also very easy to recognise because it is very simplistic. It is simply one letter with a simple design, making it easy to recognise and easy to reproduce. The logo is very distinctive.
- Q magazine does not have a strap line, as the magazine is purely an awards issue.
- The main image is the band, the Arctic Monkeys. It is a long, low angle shot, as we can see the whole bodies of the Arctic Monkeys. They are all standing at a slant, but facing forward. Their facial expressions look serious, which immediately shows the genre of the magazine. It is not a pop magazine, otherwise they would be smiley and less serious. They are also all looking straight into the camera, which once again shows the serious expressions. They are wearing very dark clothes and the picture is in black and white, which again shows they are quite a serious band.
- There are no other images on the cover of this magazine, which emphasizes the main picture of the Arctic Monkeys ever more.
- This issue is clearly stated as the awards issue, and all the cover lines promote this.

- There are not many types of font on the cover of Q. Some of the font is typed in a gold colour. This has connotations of awards, which is appropriate to suit the awards issue of the magazine. The red font does not specifically connote anything, however it suits and matches the house style of the magazine.
- The language used on the front cover of Q also fits in with this particular issue of the magazine. Things like 'and the winners are' again portray the theme of this issue. The Awards Issue is printed in a serif font, which makes the magazine appear more sophisticated and more clearly portrays the fact that this is a special issue. If it were in a san serif, fancy font it would not seem as important.
- The front cover talks to the reader by the way that the colours are quite bold and bright. The picture is of a very popular band, and most people that look at this magazine would instantly recognize them. This immediately makes people interested to read about them. It also says tells the reader how the artic monkeys were the winners of an award, so people who like this band would want to find out all about that.
- The unique selling point (USP) about this issue of Q magazine is that it is the awards issue. No other music magazine out this month is a special awards issue. As the awards are a popular event, people would want to read about them, and this magazine is the only one that offers all the news on the awards. As everything on the cover, from color to font, promote the awards there is a constant reminder that this issue will give readers an insight into the best of the music industry.
- The front cover of the Q magazine this month, does not look as busy as other music magazines at a first glance. It only tells us of a few stories, and they are all dedicated to the awards, which again show us that this issue is a special awards issue.
